2. Atlantic City Boardwalk
When you come to Atlantic City, no visit is complete without a walk on the famous AC Boardwalk. In the 1800’s the Boardwalk, a wooden walkway from the beach into town, was built to keep the sand out of the hotels. As the Boardwalk is continuing to grow, make sure you bring comfortable shoes. The Boardwalk is now over four miles long.
3. Lucy the Elephant
Lucy the Elephant is over 124 years old and the oldest example of zoomorphic architexture in the US. Thousands of tourists come every summer to get a picture of old Lucy. Tours start every half an hour, where visitors can climb up to the top and enjoy a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean and the Boardwalk. 4. Absecon Lighthouse
The restored Absecon Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in New Jersey. Opening hours are Thursday to Monday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in July and August it’s open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information see also Absecon Lighthouse website.
5. Ripleys Believe It Or Not Museum
Ripleys Believe It Or Not Museum is located on the AC Boardwalk and is open year round. The museum looks from the outside as if the building is being torn in half by a huge earth ball. Inside, the museum features over 400 strange and wonderful exhibits - starting from hair of George Washington and a matchstick replica of the Santa Maria to a roulette table made of jelly beans. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. between September to April, from May to August it is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
6. Steel Pier
he Steel Pier is a family entertainment park on the Boardwalk which features more than 25 rides including the famous Atlantic City Carousel. The Steel Pier is open Monday to Friday from 1 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from noon. You’ll find more information here.
7. Towne of Historic Smithville
This restored 18th century village is ten miles North of Atlantic City. It brings back the ol’ days! Winding brick paths, Lake Meone, five historical restaurants and 60 shoppes offering aniques, gifts, souvenirs, baked goods, food and clothing. 8. Atlantic City Art Center
Three exhibition galleries change monthly and bi-monthly featuring artwork by contemporary artists and artisans of national, regional and local renown. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. year round with free admission and parking. For more information please click here.
